Felon in Possession Sentence Significantly Reduced
DRE, A.P.C. recently represented a client on parole who was facing severe felony charges for firearm and ammunition possession. This was an incredibly challenging case, made more complex by our client's significant criminal history and a prior strike. The initial resistance from the District Attorney's office indicated the uphill battle ahead for the DRE, A.P.C. team.
Despite these formidable obstacles, DRE, A.P.C. engaged in persistent and strategic negotiations. We successfully negotiated a plea agreement for a sentence of 32 months—the low term doubled by the prior strike. Crucially, with 145 days of credit for time served, this meant our client would serve less than one actual year in custody, a remarkable outcome given the circumstances.
The complexities of this case continued even on the sentencing date, when our client failed to appear. However, DRE, A.P.C. successfully argued against an immediate warrant all morning, a testament to our unwavering advocacy that earned judicial commendation. The negotiated plea was ultimately honored, and our client later surrendered to custody, allowing him to benefit from the favorable terms secured by the DRE, A.P.C. law firm.
